But both Lara and Kier are strong of will and neither will bend easily, even for love; and when Lara disobeys, she pays the both she and Kier are plague-struck... and so is their entire encampment.

In the midst of the dying, Iften, a rival warrior, gathers his followers and challenges Keir for the right to rule their tribe. If Keir, weakened by the sickness, loses -- he dies.

And so does Lara.

To save her love, her life, and her adopted people, Lara must find a cure for the plague -- and fully embrace her sworn role as Warprize to her Warlord.

The Hook

I  am eagerly anticipating diving into "Warsworn" by Elizabeth Vaughn, the next thrilling installment in the Chronicles of the Warlands series. The synopsis alone has my heart racing with excitement as Kier and Xylara brace themselves to confront a deadly plague. Plagues have a notorious reputation for decimating entire armies, and I am genuinely anxious about the fate of Kier's forces. The tension is palpable as I wonder how they will manage to survive this onslaught without losing everything they've fought for.

Iften's presence in this chaos adds another layer of suspense. His opportunistic nature makes me worry that he will seize this moment of vulnerability to undermine Kier and take control of the army. The thought of Kier falling ill and Iften exploiting the situation to kill him with his sword sends chills down my spine. Although Kier is a main character and likely safe from such a grim fate, the potential plot twists keep me on the edge of my seat.

Above all, I fervently hope for Iften's demise. His character has always rubbed me the wrong way and seeing him get his comeuppance would be immensely satisfying. As I turn the pages of "Warsworn," I can't wait to see how these complex dynamics unfold and what surprises Elizabeth Vaughn has in store for us. This book promises to be a gripping read, filled with intrigue, danger, and the resilience of its beloved characters.

"Warsworn" by Elizabeth Vaughn was an interesting read that captivated me from the first page. The story picks up nearly right where we left off, with Xylara following after the warlord. Kier, the warlord, sweeps her up and takes her to the plains to be confirmed as the Warprize. This continuation felt seamless and immediately immersed me into the rich world Vaughn created.

One of my favorite characters in the story is Gil. His eagerness to learn and be useful makes him stand out, and in this book, he truly shines. As Xylara's apprentice, Gil grows tremendously, facing numerous challenges, especially with the onset of the plague. His determination and resilience are inspiring, and his journey of growth adds depth to the narrative. Watching Gil navigate these trials with Xylara as his master was a highlight for me.

The dynamic and love between Xylara and Kier is epic. Their relationship is a testament to love transcending societal boundaries. For a noblewoman to fall in love with and commit to a barbarian warrior is a love story for the ages, reminiscent of a medieval Romeo and Juliet. Their bond, filled with passion and loyalty, drives much of the story's emotional core, making their journey together even more compelling.

Book Spoilers

Disclaimer: This section might contain Spoilers about the book because, as we read the books we try to provide readers with information that might catch them off guard  and/or trigger them to in one way or another. This is the main reason for this blog was created.

One of the things I like about Elizabeth Vaughn's books is that there is nothing too alarming to worry about. There's nothing too profane that might catch you off guard or trigger an individual. Vaughn masterfully balances tension and intrigue without crossing any lines that might make the reader uncomfortable. This approach makes her books an enjoyable escape, allowing you to immerse yourself in the story without constant worry about unexpected content.

In **Warsworn**, this balance is maintained beautifully. Vaughn’s storytelling is captivating, and the characters are well-developed and relatable. As we follow Xylara and Kier on their journey, we are drawn into their world and their struggles. The dynamics between the characters are engaging, and the challenges they face are portrayed with just the right amount of intensity.

Don't read this part if you want to find out parts of the book for yourself, but two things really got me in this book.

Spoiler Alert!

The death of Gil was particularly heart-wrenching for me. I don't think he was killed by the plague. I believe he might've been poisoned by Iften or one of Iften's lackeys, which would explain why he was convulsing and why his symptoms didn't show earlier on. It’s a suspicion that adds another layer of intrigue and complexity to the plot.

The next thing that bothers me is the way Iteara died. I agree with Xylara when she says that there’s something wrong with her death. There's a sense of mystery and foreboding surrounding it, and I have an inkling that Iften has something to do with it. These elements of suspicion and unresolved tension keep you on the edge of your seat, making **Warsworn** an unforgettable read.
