Book Synopsis

While Sera is finally free of Kolis and back with those she loves, not everything is calm. Memories of all she’s endured still haunt her, but Sera finally has hope for a future with the other half of her heart and soul. Nyktos desires, loves, and accepts every part of her—even the monstrous bits she still battles.

More than ever, Sera and Ash have everything under the realms to fight for, and Nyktos has no doubt Sera is fit to be the Queen of the Gods. But she must find that faith within herself if they hope to convince the other Courts to support them against Kolis and make Iliseeum and the mortal realm better, safer places for all.

But as Sera begins to piece together the importance of her bloodline and the true meaning behind the foreboding prophecy, it becomes clear that everything that has happened and is yet to come is much bigger than Kolis and his dark obsessions.

They cannot help but wonder exactly how much influence the Fates have had and what their ultimate goal is. What Sera does know for sure is that they can trust very few—including her.

A battle between the gods is brewing, and heartbreaking losses are imminent with the true Primal of Death strengthening. With a family of the heart willing to battle by their side, can Sera and Nyktos stop Kolis before he destroys the realms, or will it all disappear in a fiery inferno of blood and ash?

And the line between justice and vengeance has never been so thin.

The Hook

As I prepare to delve deep into the synopsis of Born of Blood and Ash, the gravity of Sera and Ash’s journey becomes even more apparent. The challenges they face aren't just physical battles against enemies or struggles for political power—they're battling the very essence of darkness that Kolis embodies. Securing the approval of the other courts feels like a near-impossible task, with so many variables that could tip the scales against them. Every decision they make could either fortify their position or unravel everything they've worked for. And with Kolis returning, it's as though the shadows of the past are closing in on them, threatening to suffocate any hope they have of a future.

But it’s Sera’s inner turmoil that truly grips me. Her dreams, born from the horrors she faced in Kolis’s court, aren’t just haunting her sleep—they’re a lingering madness, a constant reminder of her trauma. I can’t help but wonder if she’ll be able to hold on to her sanity while facing these new threats. The fear that the madness could consume her is ever-present, casting a dark cloud over what should be a fight for freedom and peace.

Despite these overwhelming challenges, I can’t help but hope that Sera and Ash find a way through this darkness together. I want to see them find ways to soothe Sera’s troubled mind, not just through battle or strategy, but in moments of intimacy that allow them to connect truly. I’m hoping for more than just fleeting comfort—I want to see their relationship deepen in ways that bring healing to Sera’s soul. If they can find that intimacy, that deeper connection, it might be the key to overcoming not just Kolis but the madness that threatens to tear them apart. The potential for their bond to grow stronger and more profound is what I’m most eager to see unfold in this story.

Book Review

I'm constantly amazed at the sheer capability and world-building effort Jennifer L. Armentrout puts into her books, especially in Born of Blood and Ash. The depth and detail she crafts in her worlds are incredible, pulling me in from the very first page. That said, I must admit, this book isn't for audiences under the age of 18. There are definitely some triggering events throughout, which I'll go over in the spoiler alert section shortly. Still, despite these intense moments, the book was so compelling I just couldn't put it down. Every spare moment I had, I found myself reaching for it, eager to dive back into Sera and Ash's journey.

What I particularly loved about this book is how Jennifer deepens the intimacy between Ash and Sera. The way their relationship grows amidst their struggles, especially after all the abuse and mental trauma Sera endured at Kolis’s hands, adds so much emotional weight to the story. The narrative is full of emotional ups and downs, twists, and unexpected turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. Even though some elements of the story were a bit predictable, especially if you're familiar with the previous books, it didn't detract from the overall experience. If you’re planning to dive into this world, I highly recommend starting with the Flesh and Fire series before moving on to the Blood and Ash series. The progression of the story is much more satisfying when experienced in order.

While I'm sad to see the Flesh and Fire series come to an end, I am eagerly anticipating Jennifer Armentrout's next installment in the Blood and Ash series. The last book, A Soul of Ash and Blood, left us with so many intriguing developments—like Casteel's ability to summon a notum form and Poppy awakening as a baby primal. The stakes have never been higher, and I'm dying to see where their story goes next. Jennifer, if you're reading this, I can't wait for your next book. Your storytelling and world-building are truly unparalleled, and I'm already counting down the days until we get to continue the journey with Casteel and Poppy. Please release the new book soon—I’m eagerly waiting to see what happens next!

Book Spoilers

Disclaimer: This section might contain Spoilers about the book because, as we read the books we try to provide readers with information that might catch them off guard  and/or trigger them to in one way or another. This is the main reason for this blog was created.

I want to give a strong warning to readers considering Born of Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout: this book is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18. It's a story meant for mature audiences only, as it delves into some incredibly heavy and potentially distressing topics. Discussions of sexual assault, suicide, the death of children, and psychological abuse are prevalent throughout the book. There's even a note at the beginning, warning readers about these themes. If any of these subjects are triggering or cause you distress, I highly recommend steering clear of this book. It’s intense, and not everyone will be comfortable with its content.

Spoiler Alert:

Now, let's get into the details of the book. I have to say, even though Kolis is supposed to be the villain, I can't help but feel a bit of sympathy for him. It seems all he wants is to be loved by the woman he cares for, Satoria, who I believe could actually be his heartmate. But Satoria doesn’t recognize the bond between them or what it might mean. She’s terrified of him and her own feelings because she doesn't understand them, and Kolis’s appearance frightens her. That’s why she accidentally ran off the cliff. If people had just given them the chance to explore their connection, maybe things could have been different. But no one gave Satoria the opportunity to try to love him, and that, I think, is what ultimately pushed Kolis to become the villain he is.

That said, I think Kolis's descent into darkness stems from being denied the chance to love and be loved. It’s a perfect example of nurture versus nature. Originally, Kolis might not have been such a bad guy—he was just a person who lost the love of his life. This doesn’t excuse his actions or the way he treats Sera, Ash, and the rest of the courts, but it does add a layer of tragedy to his story. It’s a reminder that without love, anyone can be driven to do terrible things.

But enough about Kolis and Satoria. Let's talk about Ash and Serafina. I was thrilled to see Serafina getting pregnant with Malec and Iris in this book! And anyone who doubts Serafina’s strength clearly hasn't been paying attention. She is a badass in her own right, taking down Kolis and locking him up in the bone chains of the ancients, setting off the prophecy quoted by the Eris. I’m so excited for the next book in the series. I can’t wait to see what Jennifer L. Armentrout has in store for us. The anticipation is killing me, and I hope you’re all as excited as I am. While I know it’s slated for a 2025 release, I’m crossing my fingers for an early launch. I’d hate to have to wait until the end of the year again!

Speaking of the next book, The Primal of Blood and Bone is expected to come out in 2025, according to Jennifer L. Armentrout’s website. Here’s hoping for a January release because I’m so eager to dive back into this world. However, considering this book just came out in August 2024, I wouldn’t be surprised if we have to wait until August 2025, especially if it’s another epic, 37-hour read. Fingers crossed for sooner rather than later!
