Book Synopsis

Spring returns to the Plains, and with it, the Time of the Challenges, when warrior fights warrior in a contest for rank and status. For Simus of the Hawk, now is the time to raise his challenge banner, to fight for the chance to finally become Warlord. But his deadliest challenge does not come from other warriors, or even the sundered Council of Elders. For on the first night of the Challenges, a mysterious and deadly pillar of white light scorches the night sky—instantly changing everything for the People of the Plains. Now a warrior-priestess, Snowfall, stands before Simus, who dares to speak of peace, of reconciliation. Her knives are sharp, her tattoos alluring, and her cool grey eyes can look through Simus and see…everything. Now Simus and Snowfall must solve the mystery of the pillar of white light and protect their people from all the destruction and chaos it brings. Snowfall fights for her place beside Simus, despite resistance from friend and foe. The warrior-priests have abused their power for many years. Can Simus face the challenge of trusting Snowfall with his honor? And perhaps . . . with his heart?

The Hook

I can't contain my excitement for "WarDance" by Elizabeth Vaughn, the next installment in the Chronicles of the Warlands series. Simus, without a doubt, is my favorite character. His humor, attitude, and witty commentary have always added a delightful flavor to the narrative. I was so disappointed when he didn't appear in the last book, "Warcry." However, I am absolutely thrilled that Vaughn decided to center this story around him.

From the synopsis, it seems that Simus will be working closely with a character named Snowfall to unravel the mystery behind a bright light that appeared in the heart of the Plains. The Plains are undergoing rapid changes, and this new element adds an intriguing twist to the evolving landscape. I'm eager to see how Simus's unique perspective and resourcefulness will come into play as he navigates these challenges.

The dynamic between Simus and Snowfall promises to be fascinating. With Simus's sharp wit and Snowfall's enigmatic presence, their partnership is bound to be compelling. I can't wait to dive into this adventure and see how they tackle the mysteries and upheavals facing the Plains. "WarDance" is sure to be an exhilarating addition to the Chronicles of the Warlands.

Book Review

WarDance by Elizabeth Vaughn is, without a doubt, my absolute favorite new book from her. As I've mentioned before, Simus was already one of my favorite characters in the series, but this book has solidified that statement in the best way possible. Simus's hilarious and witty commentary kept me entertained throughout the entire book. Every page brought a new quip or clever observation from him, making the story even more engaging and enjoyable. His humor added a lighthearted touch to the intense and thrilling narrative, and I found myself laughing out loud more times than I can count.

But what truly amazed me was Snowfall. She is an absolute beast – a kick-ass, awesome Warrior-Priest who shattered all my previous notions about the Warrior-Priests. Snowfall is not only deadly in battle but also an incredible match for Simus. Their dynamic is electric, and their interactions are filled with both tension and mutual respect. I loved watching their relationship develop, and Snowfall's strength and determination made her a standout character in her own right.

Elizabeth Vaughn delivered on every front with WarDance. The book seamlessly weaves together mythology and history, creating a rich and immersive world that captivated me from start to finish. The story itself was completely enlightening, offering new insights and expanding the lore of the series in fascinating ways. Even if you haven't read the other books, WarDance stands strong as a standalone novel. The plot is compelling, the characters are well-developed, and the pacing is perfect. This book has everything I could want – action, humor, depth, and heart. It's a truly exceptional addition to the Chronicles of the Warlands, and I can't recommend it enough.

Book Spoilers

Disclaimer: This section might contain Spoilers about the book because, as we read the books we try to provide readers with information that might catch them off guard  and/or trigger them to in one way or another. This is the main reason for this blog was created.

WarDance by Elizabeth Vaughn also hits the mark in terms of content that is appropriate for a wide range of readers. One thing I appreciated is the absence of profanity, making the dialogue and narration feel clean and accessible. While some of the sex scenes may be a bit mature for younger teens, they are handled with taste and sensitivity. I would categorize this book more as new adult/adult reading due to these elements, which contribute to the overall maturity and depth of the story.

This thoughtful approach to adult themes ensures that the book remains engaging and relatable for older readers without alienating those who prefer less explicit content. Vaughn masterfully balances these scenes within the broader narrative, ensuring they enhance rather than overshadow the plot. This makes WarDance a versatile read that can appeal to both long-time fans of the series and new readers looking for a well-crafted fantasy adventure. The combination of engaging characters, a rich storyline, and mindful content curation makes WarDance a standout novel in Elizabeth Vaughn's impressive repertoire.
