Book Synopsis

For centuries, the Others and humans have lived side by side in uneasy peace. But when humankind oversteps its bounds, the Others will have to decide how much humanity they’re willing to tolerate—both within themselves and within their community...

Since the Others allied themselves with the Cassandra sangue, the fragile yet powerful human blood prophets have been exploited by their kind, and the delicate dynamic between humans and Others has changed. Some, like Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn, see the new, closer companionship as beneficial—both personally and practically.

But not everyone is convinced. A group of radical humans is seeking to usurp land through a series of violent attacks on the Others. What they don’t realize is that there are older and more dangerous forces than shifters and vampires protecting the land that belongs to the Others—and those forces are willing to do whatever is necessary to protect what is theirs…

The Hook

I’m so excited to jump into Marked in Flesh by Anne Bishop, the next chapter in The Others series. From what I can gather from the synopsis, this one promises to be an intense, high-stakes adventure. We find Meg and Simon standing on the brink of a massive conflict, with everything teetering between the potential destruction of humanity and a slim hope of salvation for the few who’ve shown loyalty to The Others. It’s a delicate balance, and I’m eager to see how these loyalties will hold up under pressure—and if they’ll be enough to make a difference.

The series has already introduced us to such complex relationships and fierce alliances, and now it looks like those bonds are going to be put to the ultimate test. It’s one thing to say you’ll support The Others, but when the stakes are this high, will those loyal few stand strong or fall apart? I’m ready to follow Meg and Simon through this journey to see how they navigate the blurred lines between ally and enemy in a world on the edge of war.

If you’re up for a story filled with suspense, action, and powerful relationships, join me as I dive into Marked in Flesh. This installment promises to take us even deeper into Bishop’s beautifully crafted world, and I can’t wait to discover how this next chapter unfolds.

Book Review

I just finished Marked in Flesh by Anne Bishop, and I’m so excited to share how much I enjoyed this installment! Right from the start, the introduction of new characters, like Twila Montgomery, made a huge impact. Her no-nonsense attitude mixed with that warm, motherly instinct had me rooting for her from the moment she stepped into the story. Twila brings a refreshing dynamic to the series, and her presence adds a comforting strength amid the chaos.

One of the most fascinating aspects of this book is how Bishop reimagines the world she initially built. The attacks on The Others bring huge changes, and Bishop does an incredible job of evolving this world in response to the story’s plot twists. It’s rare to find a series that grows and shifts as organically as this one, almost like the world itself is a character adapting to the challenges the story throws its way. And let’s not forget the growing bond between Simon and Meg, which has taken on a beautifully personal and romantic turn that I’m absolutely here for. It’s such a pleasure to watch their relationship develop naturally, adding an extra layer of warmth to the series.

This was an exciting read from beginning to end, and I can’t wait to dive into Etched in Bone, the next book in The Others series. If you’ve been enjoying the journey with Meg, Simon, and all the other fascinating characters, join me in this next chapter—it’s bound to be another thrilling ride!

Book Spoilers

Disclaimer: This section might contain Spoilers about the book because, as we read the books we try to provide readers with information that might catch them off guard  and/or trigger them to in one way or another. This is the main reason for this blog was created.

Marked in Flesh by Anne Bishop felt relatively safe in terms of content, with the main point of caution being some adult language throughout. While I wouldn’t recommend it for readers under 18, it’s certainly less intense on the triggering content compared to some earlier books in the series. What I found exciting is that Meg is starting to find alternative ways to channel her prophecies—using prophecy cards instead of cutting her skin. This new method is much safer for her both physically and mentally, and it’s interesting to see her grow as she learns to use the cards to foretell events.

Spoiler Alert:

One of the most impactful parts of the book for me was the introduction of the Elders, who are even more dangerous than the shifters we’re familiar with. These powerful beings step in as humanity’s buffer breaks, and after an attack kills several of the shifters, the Elders decide it’s time to “thin the herd.” Bishop handles this escalation so well, showing the devastating consequences of humanity’s recklessness toward The Others. And the loss of Joe Wolfgard was especially heartbreaking—it’s a vivid scene that I still think about.

If you’re following along with this series, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this book. Let me know in the comments, and I’ll see you in Etched in Bone!
