In exchange for a vial of dragon's blood to save her brother's life, Melanie Hall offers herself up as a sacrifice to one of the British dragon-shifter clans. Being a sacrifice means signing a contract to live with the dragon shifters for six months to try to conceive a child. Her assigned dragon man, however, is anything but easy. He's tall, broody, and alpha to the core. There's only one problem--he hates humans.
Due to human dragon hunters killing his mother, Tristan MacLeod despises humans. Unfortunately, his clan is in desperate need of offspring to repopulate their numbers, and it's his turn to serve a human female. Despite his plans to have sex with her and walk away, his inner dragon has other ideas. The curvy human female tempts his inner beast like no other.
NOTE: This is the entire first story arc of the Stonefire Dragons (Parts #1-4), complete with a HEA and no cliffhangers.
I'm so excited to dive into a new series! My sister-in-law, Katie Hammond, has been raving about the Stonefire Dragons, and I'm finally ready to give it a shot. Thirteen books of sexy, steamy dragon shifters? Yes, please!
From what I've gathered, Sacrificed to the Dragon centers around Melanie Hall, a woman who values family above all else. Her life takes a sharp turn when she's paired with Triston McLeod, a brooding dragon shifter. This reminds me of Donna Grant's Dark Kings series, which I absolutely loved. If this is anything like that, I'm hoping for Scottish dragons who are all-male, hot as hell, and fiercely protective of their mates. Dragon lore suggests they mate for life, so I'm eager to see if that holds in this world.
I'm really hoping Melanie isn't a damsel in distress who needs saving. I want a strong female lead who can hold her own, even before she meets her dragon mate. I'm also curious to see how much of the book draws from actual dragon mythology. Fingers crossed for some historical and mythical elements! Either way, I'm excited to start Sacrificed to the Dragon and see what Jessie Donovan has in store for me!
I just finished reading Sacrificed to the Dragon by Jessie Donovan, and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Right from the start, I was drawn to Melanie Hall. She's such a strong, independent woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to stand up for herself. Donovan did a fantastic job creating a heroine you can't help but root for.
And then there's Triston MacLeod. Talk about a brooding hero! His hatred for humans, stemming from the tragic loss of his family, adds a layer of complexity to his character. The dynamic between him and Melanie is electric. Their love-hate relationship had me on the edge of my seat, eager to see how their story would unfold. The steamy scenes were definitely a highlight, but I also loved the witty banter and the constant push and pull between them.
While I wish the world-building had been a bit more descriptive, it didn't detract too much from my overall enjoyment. Donovan really knows how to craft compelling characters and weave a captivating story. If you're looking for a sexy, steamy romance with dragon shifters, this book is definitely worth checking out!
I just finished Sacrificed to the Dragon by Jessie Donovan, and I have to give it a thumbs up! It was a really enjoyable read, but I do want to mention that it's definitely geared towards a mature audience. There's some adult language and the steamy scenes are pretty descriptive, so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 18.
Spoiler Alert:
Now, let's get to the good stuff! The sex scenes were amazing, no doubt about it. 🔥 While I wished there was a bit more depth to the plot, I have a feeling things will pick up as the series progresses. It seems like those dragon hunters are going to cause some serious trouble, and I'm curious to see how that plays out.
One of the things I love about series like this is how they build a whole community of characters. Each book focuses on a different couple, and it's fun to see familiar faces pop up. Speaking of which, it looks like the next book is about Bram, the leader of the clan, and I'm already eager to get my hands on it!
This series reminds me a lot of Donna Grant's Dragon Kings series, which I absolutely adore. I'm on a real dragon kick lately (maybe it's because it's the end of the Dragon year in Chinese astrology!), and I can't wait to devour more books about these mythical creatures.
Back to Sacrificed to the Dragon, I really liked how Triston's fear of humans, rooted in his tragic past, shaped his character. And I was so happy to see Melanie win over both him and his sister, Arabella. The push and pull between Triston and Melanie was a highlight for me – it made for a fun and engaging read. Bring on the next book, Seducing the Dragon!
