Book Synopsis

Celaena Sardothien is her kingdom’s most feared assassin. Though she works for the powerful and ruthless Assassin’s Guild, Celaena yields to no one and trusts only her fellow killer for hire, Sam.

When Celaena's scheming master, Arobynn Hamel, dispatches her on missions that take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, she finds herself acting independently of his wishes—and questioning her own allegiance. Along the way, she makes friends and enemies alike, and discovers that she feels far more for Sam than just friendship. But by defying Arobynn’s orders, Celaena risks unimaginable punishment, and with Sam by her side, he is in danger, too. They will have to risk it all if they hope to escape Arobynn’s clutches—and if they fail, they’ll lose not just a chance at freedom, but their lives . . .

A prequel to Throne of Glass, this collection of five novellas offers readers a deeper look into the history of this cunning assassin and her enthralling—and deadly—world.

Included in this volume:

The Assassin and the Pirate Lord

The Assassin and the Healer

The Assassin and the Desert

The Assassin and the Underworld

The Assassin and the Empire

The Hook

In this prequel to the Throne of Glass series, we follow the journeys of Celaena Sardothien, and will learn about the events that molded her into the person she became in the books of the throne of glass series. Now since I’ve already read this book, I’m going to do things a little differently with this series. I’m going to give you tips and things to look out for in the books that will help you understand parts of the books later on in the series.

For example, in the story of the pirate Lord, keep in mind the deal she makes with Rauf at the end of that chapter, that deal is brought up later on in the series. Now I haven’t read this book as many times as I’ve read the other ones in the series, because it just came out last year. But let’s just say that I think my favorite part of this book, is the assassin and the desert.  In a close second is the assassin and the healer. So, pay attention to those stories especially, because those also are brought up later on in the series.

Book Review

Sarah J. Maas has a gift for description and keeping the reader interested all the way to the end. SJM, starts the book off strong with suspense and Assassinations, and continues that momentum throughout the book building the suspense and then triggering a response. Sarah J. Maas has several noteworthy series that will keep you on the edge of your seat full of suspense and adventure.

Throne of Glass is the first series I read of Sarah J Maas that I fell in love with. This book has suspense, adventure, romance, magic, fantasy, and much, much more. My favorite story is The Assassin in the Desert because she makes friends with Ansel. I think I like the fact that she makes friends with Ansel because, and so may know a lot of people but it doesn’t seem like she has a lot of friends, Celaena also doesn’t have a lot of friends, but the two of them together become friends and they are two peas in a pod.

All in all, this collation of stories wrapped into one, is a good read and it gives you insights into The Throne of Glass series and gives insight as to Celena’s mind frame before Endovier, versus how she is after Endovier. So, let’s get started with the main series Throne of Glass.

Book Spoilers

Disclaimer: This section might contain Spoilers about the book because, as we read the books we try to provide readers with information that might catch them off guard  and/or trigger them to in one way or another. This is the main reason for this blog was created.

In this book there are references to abuse, torture, murder, and mental abuse. These are a couple of things that might trigger somebody and make them upset.

So, one thing that got me with this book was in The Assassin and the Empire, Sam is stubborn and stupid and if he only listened to Celaena he might’ve lived. Furthermore, if Celaena listened to Sam to begin with, Sam may not have ended up dead and Celaena would never have wound up in Endovier because she would’ve had no reason to avenge him.

Additionally, as an alternative to staying in the city, they could’ve gone back to the desert and trained with the desert assassin till they saved up enough money from contracts to move on. But they didn’t think about that, so they stayed in the city and took on a dangerous contract and Sam wound up dead and Celaena wound up in Endovier. But so is the stage for the next book.
