Book Synopsis

Spells, Hexes, and Curses.

Curses are falling on this town like rain in London. Just when I think I've found a link between the hexed victims, someone else shows up jinxed, too. It feels like the devil is playing darts with my paranormal town, and if the dart lands on you, you get whammed with a curse.

Frankly, I haven't got a clue how to find the perpetrator. Realistically, it probably isn't Beelzebub. My sole lead is pointing me at the traveling black market that has just landed in Portlock. That's all fine and dandy — if I can find out where it is. Weirdly, no one is willing to talk to the cops about the highly illegal market. I'm persona non grata, which I'm kind of used to, being a slightly-less-than-undead vampire.

On top of everything, my overbearing British mother has come to visit me in Alaska. Stuck in my shoebox house together, we might actually have to deal with some of our issues. Ugh, what fresh circle of hell is this? Thank goodness I have Connor MacKenzie, vampire leader, and sexy lumberjack, to run to when the going gets tough.

I'm juggling things — badly — when I discover my dog is cursed, too. The question is, what would I do to save my hound? The answer: anything and everything. The world can burn for all I care as long as I can save my pup.

Dive into this fast-paced urban fantasy series if you love mystery, humor found family, and a slow-burn romance.

The Hook

I can't contain my excitement for the latest installment in The Portlock Series, "The Vampire and the Case of the Cursed Canine" by Heather G. Harris and Jilleen Dolenbeare. This series has always had a special place in my heart, and each new book brings a thrilling blend of mystery, supernatural elements, and heartwarming moments. However, this new plot twist has me on edge. From what I've gathered from the synopsis, it seems our beloved Fluffy, the adorable puppy, is at the center of a sinister curse. As an ardent animal lover, this revelation has left me both devastated and anxious.

Fluffy has always been one of my favorite characters. His innocence and charm bring so much joy to the story, and I can't bear the thought of him suffering. The idea of him being cursed is heart-wrenching. I'm filled with dread at the possibility of something terrible happening to him. If anything were to occur, Fluffy, I don't know how I could reconcile my love for the series with such a heartbreaking event. It's a testament to the authors' skill that they've made me care so deeply about every character, especially our four-legged friend.

Reflecting on Fluffy's predicament, I can't help but think back to the moment he was found locked in that dumpster. I always sensed there was more to his story, but I never imagined it would be a curse. Now, I'm left wondering if his previous owner abandoned him because of this dark affliction rather than attempting to lift it. If that's the case, shame on that owner! But rather than dwell on the past, I'm eager to dive into the book and discover what fate has in store for Fluffy. I have my fingers crossed that our heroes can save him and break the curse, ensuring Fluffy gets the happy ending he so deserves. Let's embark on this emotional journey together and hope for the best for our beloved puppy.

I am absolutely over the moon about the latest book, "The Vampire and the Case of the Cursed Canine," by Heather G. Harris and Jilleen Dolenbeare. Bunny and Connor are the total power couple in this series, and they rock my world! Their dynamic is so captivating and fun to read about. The whole mate thing makes the book stand out for me. I love how their connection and feelings are so intertwined that they can sense what the other is experiencing. It’s powerful and incredibly useful, especially considering Bunny's knack for getting into trouble, whether she's ending up in the hospital or getting attacked.

Bunny’s sense of humor is a highlight for me. Her sarcasm always brings a smile to my face and adds a lighthearted touch to the story, even in the most intense moments. And then there’s Connor—tall, dark, and handsome. He’s that enigmatic stranger you meet on the street and instantly want to be with. His protective nature and deep bond with Bunny make their relationship so compelling. I love seeing how they navigate the dangers they face together, always stronger for it.

I’m already counting down the days until the next book, "The Vampire in the Case of a Hellacious Hag," is released. It’s such a bummer that it’s not estimated to come out until 2025. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping it gets released sooner because I can’t wait to see what happens next with Bunny and Connor. Their journey has been such a thrilling ride, and I’m eager to see how their relationship and adventures unfold. Here’s hoping for an early release and more of their amazing story!

Book Spoilers

Disclaimer: This section might contain Spoilers about the book because, as we read the books we try to provide readers with information that might catch them off guard  and/or trigger them to in one way or another. This is the main reason for this blog was created.

I have just finished reading Heather G. Harris and Julian Dolenbeare's latest book, "The Vampire and the Case of the Cursed Canine," and I feel compelled to share some important information with fellow readers. This book contains some profanity, which might be inappropriate for children under the age of 15. Additionally, the story delves into sensitive topics, particularly touching on child abuse. Bunny’s parents put her in intentionally dangerous situations as a child in an attempt to trigger her magic. These actions, discussed in detail, can be construed as child abuse and may be triggering to some individuals.

Spoiler Alert:

I must admit, I was disappointed to learn that Fluffy, even though I had my suspicions, is a shapeshifter cursed into the form of a dog. This revelation means he will no longer be Bunny's loyal canine partner in crime. Instead, he’s likely to join the police force alongside Bunny, April, Sid, and Gooner. Fluffy was probably my favorite character in the entire book because he was an animal, especially a German Shepherd, which added a unique dynamic to the story. It’s a fascinating twist that his shapeshifted form remains a German Shepherd due to the curse. However, it’s frustrating that he’s unsure if he’ll ever regain his werewolf form.

Despite this change, I’m still excited for the next book to see what happens with Fluffy and John. John, another intriguing character, reappears in this book, who is the person who helped Bunny escape from London and the vampires who want to enslave her. His return added another layer of excitement and intrigue to the story.

So, what do you think? Are we happy that Fluffy can now shapeshift into a human, thus changing his role in Bunny’s life? Or do we wish that Fluffy had remained her faithful dog companion and pet? For me, there’s a bittersweet feeling. While it’s exciting to see Fluffy’s character evolve, I do miss the idea of him being Bunny’s loyal and lovable German Shepherd. Nonetheless, I’m eager to see how this development unfolds in future books!
