I’m Jinx, a run-of-the-mill private investigator … except I’m also a walking, talking lie detector. Oh, and I belong to magical realm known as the Other.
Murder isn’t usually my gig, but when I’m hired to investigate the death of a dryad called Reggie, I agree to help out because I know his grieving widow. It should be an easy case to crack, a mugging gone wrong, but the murder scene photos show it was anything but. Reggie’s death has all the hallmarks of my parents’ murders so I’ll stop at nothing to finding his killers. It’s so important I’d even be willing to tag in Stone to help – if I could find him…
Reggie was into some bad stuff involving a drug called Boost. Take it, and you play Russian roulette because either you get high or you die. As the drug claims another victim, I find myself with a new sidekick who is determined to fight its evil influence and he just happens to be the king of the dragon community.
Now I have two deaths to solve and one suave dragon king along for the ride.
I need to find Reggie’s murderer.
I need to discover who killed my parents.
And I need to keep my distance from the charismatic dragon Emory, who refuses to take no for an answer…
So, a new love interest potential, and a Dragon King no less…so much better than a warlock. I mean come on how can you beat the king of the dragons, when she is already met by the way; And can we say wow about how that last book ended? I mean it was a little stupid of Jinx to cut herself with a glimmer blade knowing it would turn her other, but it was the heat of the moment kind of thing, so I guess it’s okay. But what is that mistake going to cost Jinx and, so let’s get to the goods that I am hoping to see in this book.
I’m hoping that Jinx gets awesome powers because she cut herself with the glimmer blade. I’m also hoping that she gets to keep the glimmer blade, you know as a kind of thank you for saving my son type of gift. I’m also hoping that the king of the dragon's is going to start developing feelings for Jinx. This way when Inspector Stone comes back then they have a triangle that’ll add some spice to the story. Then Jinx has to choose which one she wants more, the detective that swept her off her feet and introduced her to this crazy world, who she can no longer trust; or the king of the dragons who seems to have inserted himself in Jinx’s investigation.
An investigation, that is full of murder and drugs. I’m also really excited to see what other cool stuff Cato can do because her Great Dane is awesome. I think as jinx grows so will Cato, which is one of the reasons why I am very excited to read this next book in the series of The Other Realm by Heather G Harris. Let’s get started with glimmer of hope.
I think that of all the books I’ve read so far for Heather G Harris, I think I like this one the best. First of all, oh my God a Dragon, I love dragons they’re awesome end of story. So, murder and drugs are what this book is about, nice combination for a murder mystery and a mystery it is. One thing I didn’t like about this book, however, was the fact that Emory the prime of the dragons only came into the picture halfway through the book. I mean come on the synopsis made it sound like he was going to be there from the get-go, but now he only shows up towards the middle of the book. I mean I guess that’s okay; I understand it’s to build the new love interest, but seriously did he have to come in right in the middle of the book I wanted to see more interaction between Jinx and Emory.
All in all, the book was good, it kept me interested the whole time and I couldn’t put it down, I just kept listening to it throughout the whole day. I did figure out towards the middle of the book who the killer was, so the big reveal wasn’t so big for me. But it might be for the rest of you because it's probably not the person you think it is. This book left off on a cliffhanger as well just like the other books, but this cliffhanger is a prelude to what the next book is about, so read this book to the end and enjoyed a scintillating story that teases your senses.
One of the great things about Heather Harris’s books is that there is not a lot of stuff that you need to look out for. These books are appropriate for teens as well as adults, and the only thing that you need to look out for is possible bad language. But I want to try something new here with this book I am going to divulge part of the book here.
So, towards the end of the book when Jinx and Emory are caught by the bad guy, we finally find out what happened to Stone. He went undercover and didn’t tell Jinx that he was going undercover. So, Stone loses out on a potential relationship with Jinx because he couldn’t wait to go undercover till, she woke up in the previous book. Now in the process of claiming his undying love for Jinx, has he forgotten that he is betrothed to somebody else? Like seriously dude wake up you’re already betrothed how could you say you want to marry Jinx when you’re already betrothed? But I am eager to see the relationship triangle that might happen between Stone, Jinx, and Emory hopefully in the next book. I’m hoping we get to see some action between Jinx and either Stone or Emory because she needs to get some.
