Book Synopsis

Once, he drove back to the darkness.

Once, he loved with such passion that it made him a legend.

Once driven wild with grief over the murder of his beloved, the majestic Fey King Rain Tairen Soul had laid waste to the world before vanishing into the Fading Lands. Now, a thousand years later, a new threat draws him back into the world—and a new love reawakens the heart he thought long dead.

Ellysetta, a woodcarver’s daughter, calls to Rain in a way no other ever had. Mysterious and magical, her soul beckons him with a compelling, seductive song—and no matter the cost, the wildness in his blood will not be denied.

As an ancient, familiar evil regains its strength, causing centuries-old alliances to crumble and threatening doom for Rain and his people... he must claim his true mate to embrace the destiny woven for them both in the mists of time.

Book Review

Lord of the Fading Lands was an interesting read, especially with the significant role Ellysetta plays in Rain's destiny. I'm really curious to see how things will develop between the two of them. With Ellysetta constantly fighting against her true self, it’s clear their journey to becoming true mates won’t be an easy one. Her continuous denial of her magic is frustrating, and it’s making everything harder on everyone around her. Honestly, I feel like her refusal to accept it is going to lead to some serious consequences, possibly even getting someone killed. She really needs to accept that she has magic and start training because her attitude right now is just irking me. At the moment, I can’t say I like her much.

On the flip side, Bel has become one of my favorite characters in the book. I love the lengths he goes to help Ellysetta and smooth the transition for her and Rain, making their path a little easier. His sense of humor and his whole "I’m way too old for this" attitude adds such a fun dynamic to the story, and I really enjoy reading the scenes that feature him.

Either way, I’m excited to see where Lady of Light and Shadows takes us next in this adventure. The Tairen Soul series by C.L. Wilson definitely holds my interest, and I can’t wait to dive into the next book!

Book Spoilers

Disclaimer: This section might contain Spoilers about the book because, as we read the books we try to provide readers with information that might catch them off guard  and/or trigger them to in one way or another. This is the main reason for this blog was created.

I want to give a fair warning to anyone considering reading Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson. Early in the book, there’s a scene where Den Bronson forcibly marks Ellysetta against her will. This moment can definitely be interpreted as taking advantage of her, and it’s a tough scene to get through. If you’re sensitive to events like this, you might want to think twice before diving into the series. I have a feeling that this book—and potentially the rest of the series—will include more scenes that could be triggering for some readers.

Spoiler Alert: Despite some of the darker moments, one of my favorite scenes comes toward the end, when Ellysetta has a nightmare and Rain is by her side in her room. The love and commitment Rain shows her in that moment is truly breathtaking. Even though he’s in discomfort from the spiritual weave Ellysetta unknowingly cast on everyone at the Kings Day dinner, he still protects her in the most honorable way. I loved how carefully Ellysetta wove the magic strands to the point where no one realized what was happening until it was too late. Even Rain was affected by her magic and had to leave her side to protect both her and his honor.

The way Rain handled the situation—choosing to leave rather than risk breaking his vows by being with her at that moment—really solidified why I love his character. His strength and dedication, even when tempted, show just how deep his feelings for Ellysetta run. It’s moments like this that make me appreciate the complexity of their relationship and Rain’s unwavering commitment to her.
