Book Synopsis

VISIONS OF FLESH AND BLOOD: a Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire Compendium

is a comprehensive companion guide for background, history, reader-favorite information, and reference materials. Combined with original short stories and scenes from some of the world’s most beloved characters, it’s a treat for the senses.

Told from the point of view of Miss Willa herself, the compendium acts like research material but reads like a journal and cache of personal notes, allowing the reader to revisit the characters and history they so love yet view things in a different way.

VISIONS OF FLESH AND BLOOD by Jennifer L. Armentrout with Rayvn Salvador is a must-add addition to the series that any Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire fan will enjoy.

The Hook

Before you read this book.

There is a companion series to Blood and Ash called Flesh and Fire. I highly recommend reading this series first because this book will spoil this series for you, or if you read this book first you might be confused about some of the events in this book because you didn’t read the companion series.

Now down to the nitty-gritty, so Poppy (from blood and ash) finally wakes up and Serafina (from the flesh and fire Series) The Queen of the god Ascended to a primal… This is a great beginning to this book which is book 5.5 for the Blood and Ash series, and 4.5 for The Flesh and Fire series. I love the title of this book too it’s a nice little tie between the two series. Now for the best part,

What I hope to see in this book.

To be perfectly honest, I am hoping to read some of these dalliances that Miss Willa had, I mean come on that book has been the bane of Poppies existence, but in a funny way because it’s a fixture in the Blood and Ash series by Casteel always mentioning it. So, I want some of these scandalous stories. But in all actuality, I think it will simply be a recounting of the two books to prepare for the launch of the new Book “Born of Blood and Ash” which come out on August 13, 2024. Either way, I am hoping that this book will fill in some of the blanks I have about all of the books. Like the timeline from when Milec left Iliseeum and became king of Atlantis, to when Ires left Iliseeum in search of his twin. I am also hoping to get some more insight in the totally different ways Willa interfered in the destinies of the favored characters in all of the books.

Book Review

Okay, so the book wasn’t everything I was hoping for, and I’m really on the fence about this book. First off let me just say this book is an excellent starting point, if you’ve read all of the books up to this point. It refreshes your mind on everything you’ve read in the Blood and Ash series, as well as the Flesh and Fire series. I love how the book gives you details about each of the characters, their back stories, and their history. I also like how they give you different perspectives from different characters in those books.

However, the book repeats a lot of information that would make this book 10 to 15 chapters less than what it is. The book also jumps around a lot, one minute you’re talking about a character that is in the flesh and fire series, then the next she’s talking about a character that’s in the Blood and Ash series; so, you need to have read all of the books in both series to follow this one. Another thing I’m not too sure of, as to how I feel about the book is JLA lays in parts of her dalliances in between other parts of the chapters. It’s a lot to follow and it can be confusing.

But what I do like about this book is if you’re like me and you like to reread a series before you read a new book that comes out, JLA has arranged that for you in this book. So, instead of rereading all nine books (which is 9 up to this point in history), all you would need to do is read this one book and you’ll be caught up with everything that happened in the Blood and Ash series as well as the flesh and fire series.

One thing to be aware of with this book is that it took me nearly 4 days to finish reading. It is massive and will take you time to read, and I usually finish a book in a day, maybe two. So, you can see how big this book can be depending on your reading speed. I’m not going to lie, there were parts of this book that were slightly boring, and it possibly took me a couple times of rereading’s to pick up and understand what was going on, and I read all the books multiple times, so just be aware of that when you read this book.

Book Spoilers

Disclaimer: This section might contain Spoilers about the book because, as we read the books we try to provide readers with information that might catch them off guard  and/or trigger them to in one way or another. This is the main reason for this blog was created.

So, things to look out for in this book, keep in mind this is a recap of all nine books far that JLA has written, up to the newest book yet to be released “Born of Blood and Ash” which is expected to be released, on August 13, 2024. Therefore, this book has a lot of inferences to rape, torture, murder, death of children, sadistic natures, and many other depravities that may trigger certain individuals. Therefore, this book is not appropriate for children under the age of 18 and is for mature audiences.
