Book Synopsis

A Maiden…

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

A Duty…

The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.

A Kingdom…

Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

Book Review

Hunted by a dark prince, forced to hide beneath veils to  conceal herself from others, and adventure right around the corner.

Jennifer  L. Armentrout hit it out of the park with this first book of the blood and  ash series. With-in the first chapter we follow the story of Penelope (Poppy) the maiden, touched by the gods she uses her gifts to help sooth the pain of  others. This best seller from Jennifer has action, adventure, romance, love, Drama and is a good book to curl up on a couch drink some tea or coffee on a  cold night as the heat in this book will keep you warm. The Action will keep  you engaged in the story and have you rooting for Poppy in no time. This book  has it all and more so I recommend this as a good starter if your looking to  get into a good series.

Book Spoilers

Disclaimer: This section might contain Spoilers about the book because, as we read the books we try to provide readers with information that might catch them off guard  and/or trigger them to in one way or another. This is the main reason for this blog was created.

Though I love Jennifer’s book there are a few things to  look out for in this book. First and foremost, Poppy the main character of  the book has a scene where she has to strip down to her bare back and the  duke proceeds to cane her as a punishment in full view of Lord Mazine who is  a deprived individual.

There is another scene in the book where a maid is  described as being half naked dead in one of the citadels rooms, it’s unclear  whether or not it was consensual, but there is not explicit details of the scene  just innuendos.

The last spoiler I have this book or things to watch out  for is that there is some adult language and content in this book that you  might need to be aware of.
