I’m Jinx, a private investigator, a truth seeker and a wizard. You'd think all those skills would make it easy for me to get to the heart of a problem, but life’s never so simple. I thought I knew what had happened to my parents the night they died. I thought I finally knew the truth – but I've taken a tumble down a rabbit hole, everything is topsy turvy, and I’m not sure who I can trust.
Add to the mix some rude SOB who keeps trying to kill me. Is it the same guy who targeted my parents – or someone else entirely? I need to stay alive long enough to bring whoever it is to justice, but it looks like Emory and I have got a mole. Someone is betraying us in the worst possible way, and we need to find out who. I need to find my would-be assassin and stop him before he puts the nails in my coffin.
I need to locate the leak and plug it – permanently.
Oh, and I probably need to stop the rampaging ouroboros who is destroying parts of the city...
I’m not sure how I’m going to feel about this book, because from the context of the synopsis I can infer that it seems like someone's trying to kill Jinx but how is that different from the other three books. And every one of the books that we’ve read so far, somebody’s tried to kill her one after another. But I must say kudos to Jinx and Emory for closing the deal. Though it was a little sparse on the detail I am really happy that Jinx and Emory finally slept together.
Though I kind of saw that one coming because any myth that I’ve read has always said dragons have one made through their entire lives, and when Jinx came into the picture for Emory, I figured eventually they would hook up and Jinx would be Emory’s mate.
So, I’m suspecting in this book that the ones who are trying to kill Jinx this time, is the Connection. I think it’s probably because Jinx is becoming ever more powerful, and they are probably afraid she will overthrow them. Also, they probably don’t like the fact that she has dueling elements that she can control now, because Samantha from the previous book and her girlfriend each gave Jinx there a power (one was a water elemental one was a fire elemental) to fight Benedict.
I also have a feeling that if Jinx keeps taking on all these powers through glimmer, it’s going to start causing her problems in upcoming books but will see how this book goes because I’m excited to read it. Especially, if we get more details between the interlude between Jinx and Emory.
A nice ending to a series; sadness, and drama, but a hint of joy right at the end. I don’t know how I feel about this book; a lot of secrets are revealed throughout this book, but as Jinx works to figure out who’s trying to kill her, more questions get raised. This book has scenes for betrayal, love romance, and action. So, it’s got a little bit of everything for someone because Heather's books always deliver. I’ve never really found anything disappointing in her books, just cliffhangers that are awkward at times.
But the series as a whole is really good, you have one main plot that carries throughout all four books, but then individually each book has single secondary plots that tie it altogether nicely. Like always the details that Heather delivers in her books gives you the objective of the scene and/or puts you in that scene so you feel like you're a part of it. All in all, I can see why this book was rated a 4.5 out of 5 on goodreads.com. It’s a shame that the books end here for this series because I think this series could have gone on a little bit longer maybe another book or two. Because there is always some sort of an investigation or mystery that could be solved.
As was with the first three books, there are not a lot of concerns for this book. Aside from various murders, there is not even a lot of bad language in this book.
But one thing that irks me about this book is Gato. I get that Jinx's parents put their souls inside Gato (who is a demon dog also known as a hellhound), so the original dog that Gato now had three additional souls inside of it. What happened to the dog’s original soul? Demons can only possess a living creature, so if Gato is a demon hell hound, he had to possess the dog originally. The book only talks about the three souls (Isaac/Gato, and Jinx's parents) what happened to the dog's soul? Nobody talks about the actual dog soul that was originally in the dog’s body.
So, for me, someone who is an animal lover, that’s upsetting, and I want to know what happened to that poor puppy’s soul. I’m hoping that Gato never actually had to possess a dog soul and he just kind of is and appears as a great Dane in the common. That would make sense to me but that’s not exactly explained in the books anywhere. But just to be sure I think I’ll re-listen to the books again to see if that’s explained more in detail.
