For Cori Munroe, carrying a surrogate baby shouldn’t be any big deal. She’s got magic on her side, right?
Wrong.
Pregnancy is fritzing her magic, while she has to deal with a variety of work issues, including a huge medal ceremony involving the United States and China for saving D.C. and China’s reputation. Then the Council of Lords wants her to represent Earth’s mages. All while trying to deal with magical issues without her usual power levels.
Bombs, terrorist attacks, and work pressures are hard for anyone to deal with, let alone a pregnant woman. But when her family’s safety is threatened, Cori’s going to find a way to protect them…or die trying. With her twisted luck, anything can happen.
An urban fantasy about the things you do for family no matter what shape they wear, and magic that might change everything, or nothing.
From the synopsis of Faded Luck by Mel Todd, it looks like Cori gets pregnant—holy cow! This is a huge development, and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds. She's getting a celebration ceremony as a reward for saving the world again, which is well-deserved, but I’m really curious about how this pregnancy will change things for her. Cori has been through so much, and it would be amazing if this new chapter in her life brings her someone she can truly love—her own special person, just like Joe has Sable.
Carelin and Joe still remain my absolute favorite characters in the story. Their bond and the way they support each other and Cori is truly heartwarming. I hope that with Cori’s pregnancy, she will find the kind of love and companionship that Joe has with Sable. It would be wonderful to see her find that special connection and have someone who is there for her unconditionally.
Overall, I'm really excited to dive into this next installment of Mel Todd's Twisted Luck series, Faded Luck. There's so much potential for character growth and new dynamics, and I can’t wait to see where Cori’s journey takes her next. So, let’s jump right in and finish reading the rest of the story!
Welcome to the next adventure and catastrophe in Cori’s life with Mel Todd's Faded Luck! I have to admit, though, that this book didn’t quite capture me the way the others in the series did. Faded Luck isn’t as strong as some of the previous books. While it has its fair share of adventure and chaos, it didn’t feel up to par with the rest of the series, in my opinion. This book focuses heavily on Cori and her pregnancy, as well as her role as Jo and Sable's surrogate mother.
The story takes place during Cori’s pregnancy, where she is still very much involved in the draft and her duties to the alternate dimensions. However, now she also has to focus on taking care of herself, something that wasn’t a priority for her before. The plot was pretty predictable, and I found myself pinpointing where the story was headed almost from the start. That said, it was still a decent read and managed to hold my interest, especially toward the end when things started to heat up a bit.
Overall, I’d rate this book around a 3, 3.5, or maybe a 4, but not higher than that. It just felt like there wasn’t as much happening in this book compared to others in the series, and the details seemed a bit more sparse. However, I’m still eager for the next installment because I believe it will take place after Cori’s pregnancy, with her back in action. I’m hopeful the next adventure will bring back that spark and excitement I’ve come to love from Mel Todd’s writing!
One of the good things about Faded Luck is that it doesn’t have many triggering events or issues that readers need to worry about. The story feels a bit more benign compared to the previous books, but I think that's because Cori's maternal instincts are starting to kick in. This seems to make her pull back from some of the crazy, off-the-wall things she used to do in the other books. It’s a different side of Cori, more reserved and cautious, probably because she’s now thinking about the life growing inside her.
However, I’m concerned about how they will manage to keep the children apart when they start emerging with their powers. There's a real risk that the kids might accidentally harm each other or worse. All in all, I’m hopeful that everything will work out for the family. This event happens toward the end of the book, and I think that’s where the next installment will pick up, diving deeper into these new challenges.
