Book Synopsis

You’d think having power, having people treat you with respect, an extremely awesome inheritance waiting for me, and knowing you could do really awesome(awful) things would be cool. It isn’t. I’ve got strings you wouldn’t believe attached to the inheritance. Then it turns out other people want it, so instead of suing me, I mean, that would be logical, right? No, they are trying to kill me. And I don’t mean a single person, a freaking country! How insane is that? Well, screw them. I’m getting my degree and getting the inheritance. Okay, the house. I really want the house. But when Jo gets hurt and my familiar decides to start calling in favors, then things get even more twisted. With my luck, we might all end up insane or dead before this is over. But I refuse to give in. This is my life, and who knows, maybe I’ll survive.

The Hook

I'm excited to dive into the next installment of the Twisted Luck series with Educated Luck by Mel Todd. From what I gather, we're jumping ahead a few months from where we left off in the previous book. Cori is now in school with Joe, and I can't wait to see how their dynamic evolves in this new setting. There’s so much to unravel with Cori’s latest situation—especially this mysterious inheritance that seems to have come her way. I’m really curious about what strings might be attached to it. If you're looking for a series that will sweep you off your feet and plunge you into a world of magic, danger, and intrigue, then Mel Todd's Educated Luck is the book you need to pick up. This latest installment is another epic tale filled with death-defying acts and magical adventures that only Mel Todd can deliver. Joe continues to be my favorite character, with her complex personality and loyalty shining through every page. But I have to admit, I'm starting to really like Kerion, Cori's familiar. There's something about Kerion's wit and the bond he shares with Cori that adds an extra layer of depth and charm to the story.

Every time I pick up one of Mel's books, I'm amazed by her incredible world-building and character development. She has a way of making you feel like you're right there alongside Cori and Joe, experiencing all the thrills and dangers firsthand. Her plotlines are masterfully woven, keeping you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It's impossible not to get completely absorbed in the twists and turns that Mel lays out so expertly.

This series is undeniably addictive, and once you start, you'll find yourself craving more. Mel Todd's writing style is exceptional and incredibly creative, pulling you in and keeping you hooked the whole time. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book, Inherited Luck, and I can't wait to see where Mel takes us next in this fantastical journey. So, if you still need to start this series, what are you waiting for? Mel Todd's books are exceptionally well crafted, but it's important to note some nuances that might affect your reading experience. In Educated Luck, there's a particularly intense moment when Endeara explains her contract with Cori in the communities. To persuade Cori about the importance of having community protection, Endeara shares a traumatic story from her past involving being raped and then killing her attacker. This scene is quite powerful and emotional, but it could be triggering for some readers. I highly recommend approaching this book with caution if such themes are difficult for you.

Spoiler Alert:

One of my absolute favorite parts of Educated Luck is when Cori, Joe, and Sable learn from the Griffin in the spirit realm. The Griffin’s lessons on the fundamentals of magic and the clever new tricks they don’t learn in their formal schooling are both fascinating and enlightening. The title Educated Luck takes on multiple meanings throughout the story, not just referring to Cori attending the college for mages, which I found quite clever. I have to admit, I nearly cried when Joe got shot—she's my favorite character, and I was genuinely considering stopping the series if she didn't make it. Thankfully, they managed to revive her, and it turned out to be just a flesh wound. This book is packed with action, unexpected twists, and turns, making it a thoroughly enjoyable read from start to finish. If you're up for a rollercoaster of a magical journey, Educated Luck is a fantastic choice!
